Built box of Hugo debris,  a muddy fabric covered board from child’s trunk and collection of rusty nails imbedded with small dead insects, reptiles, etc. with instruction sheet on book cover. Inspired by African sculpture in Menil Collection, the hammering of nails provided relief from frustrations garnered by repeated rejection notices and evolved into platform for beautiful objects that didn’t fit elsewhere. Attached to the nails are old sewing machine bobbins from my first machine, baby teeth of my children, rusty tacks from my early paintings, barnacles, bugs, and bones, important keys among many other items. Small notes attached to bird’s feet, lizards, etc. read “I regret to inform you.” (cut from personal collection of rejection letters.)
