1999. Bricolage. 14 x 10 x 7” approx. Private Collection.
Box covered with gray cloth from Jansen’s History of Art. When closed, peep hole in door allows view which makes interior seem small and far away. Interior lined with tide tables and contains architectural fragments, sculpture pedestal, and bottle containing dried fragment of cadmium red paint. Bottle stopper holds paint brush and another attachment holds charcoal.
Lens in drawer enlarges and distorts contents. Drawer opened shows 3 glass test tubes holding strip of video tape, computer mother board and ball bearings collaged with computer code (1s and 0s). The complete merged indexes from my college textbooks, Jansens History of Art and Canaday’s Mainstreams of Modern Art, have been collaged onto pages of old book and reconstructed into a 2 volume History of Art edited by Aldwyth, since the 50’s, adding names of women and contemporary artists.
